The latest streaming service to capture (and rupture) the hearts of Australians is Shudder, a service dedicated to the grim and ghoulish. Shudder had quite a festive December, all things considered, with a Creepshow Christmas Special, and a healthy lashing of original content but in January, Shudder is kicking it up a notch with a dash of the nouveau shamanic.
Arriving 7 January on Shudder, Color Out of Space offers unbridled Nicolas Cage in a vivid sci-fi horror about a family's fight against an infectious evil that appears as a bright purple glow. That description really doesn't do it justice. Imagine if the director of The Island of Dr Moreau, Richard Stanley, took one look at Mandy and thought, that's not crazy enough, before resurfacing from a twenty-year hiatus to adapt an H.P. Lovecraft story and you're halfway to understanding just how nuts Color Out of Space is. You can argue about whether it's a good movie or not until the cows come home, but whether it's worth watching? That's not up for debate.
Shudder also isn't pumping the brakes on its original movie schedule in 2021. . In January alone, three new Shudder originals and exclusives are hitting the service: Hunted, Blood Vessel, and The Queen of Black Magic, proving once again that horror lovin' Shudder subscribers are truly getting their money's worth.
