Foxtel may have ceded some of its media empire to the world of streaming, thanks to apps like Foxtel Now, Binge and Kayo, but there’s actually another way you’ve been able to stream the Foxtel content you’re already subscribed to for a while now: Foxtel Go. Rather than a standalone streaming subscription that you pay extra for, Foxtel Go is a companion app available to every paying Foxtel customer, whether that's traditional Foxtel with an iQ box or on-demand streaming with Foxtel Now.

Here’s everything you need to know about using Foxtel Go, and what the alternatives are.

Foxtel Now

Is Foxtel Go the same as Foxtel Now?

Before we get stuck into what Foxtel Go is, it's important to clarify what it's not. One of the most common questions we get about Foxtel Go is if it's the same as Foxtel Now. The answer is no. Foxtel Now is a standalone streaming service, like Netflix or Stan. You pay a monthly subcription fee with no lock-in contract in order to access most of what Foxtel residential offers on a variety of streaming devices, without the need of a Foxtel iQ box or any additional installation. Foxtel Go, on the other hand, is a companion app for every paying Foxtel customer, whether that's traditional Foxtel or Foxtel Now

What is Foxtel Go?

Foxtel Go is a companion app for both residential Foxtel and Foxtel Now subscribers that lets you stream everything you’re eligible for on iOS and Android devices, and PC and Mac via a web browser. Foxtel Go doesn’t cost any extra, it’s a perk of being a paying Foxtel or Foxtel Now subscriber.

All you need to do is download the Foxtel Go app on the App Store or Google Play or head to watch.foxtel.com.au via your PC or Mac's web browser and login with your Foxtel account details. From there, you will be able to access most channels, TV shows and movies your regular account give you access to.

How to use Foxtel Go

1
Account details

Find your existing Foxtel or Foxtel Now account details including username and password or sign up for a new account

2
WiFi connection
Make sure your device (smartphone, tablet or computer) is connected to the internet via WiFi (for HD streaming) or mobile data (for SD low-data usage)
3
Download the app

Download the Foxtel Go app via the App Store for Apple iPhones and iPads or Google Play for Android smartphones and tablets or visit the Foxtel Go landing page via your web browser on PC and Mac

4
Log in
Open the Foxtel Go app on your chosen device and log in with your Foxtel username (or email address) and password. These should be the same details as you would use to log in to My Foxtel
5
Start streaming
Hey presto, you’re done. You should now be able to stream your regular viewing via the Foxtel Go app or website

Which devices is Foxtel Go available on?

  • iPhone and iPad: Devices with iOS 11 or later
  • Android smartphones and tablets: Devices with Android 5.0 or later (note: beta versions not always supported)
  • PC desktop and laptop computers: Chrome browsers
  • Mac desktop and laptops: Safari and Chrome browsers

How many devices can I use Foxtel Go on?

Every Foxtel account can be logged into five separate devices at any time but you can only watch two of those devices at once. If you’re unable to connect, or you’re getting kicked out constantly, there are probably at least two other people in your house trying to watch Foxtel.

How much is Foxtel Go?

Foxtel Go itself is a perk for Foxtel and Foxtel customers. It’s not free, per se, because you’ve got to be a paying Foxtel customer to use it. Foxtel can cost anywhere between $60 and $145 per month depending on your package.

What are the alternatives to Foxtel Go?

Foxtel Go might work a little like a typical streaming service, in that it uses the internet to stream your content to a number of devices, but that’s where the similarities end. To use Foxtel Go, you already need to be a customer of Foxtel, which is more expensive and follows a traditional pay TV plan structure built from various channel packs. Foxtel Now is more affordable but still has various channel packs and can cost over $100 per month.

So what are your alternatives for streaming Foxtel content? Well, the suite of apps from Foxtel subsidiary Hubbl covers most of what’s available on Foxtel. That includes Binge (premium TV and movies,) Kayo (sports,) Flash (news,) and LifeStyle (reality and lifestyle TV.)

Each of those services comes with its own monthly subscription cost but with the Hubbl platform, you can stack subscriptions to save money on your monthly bill. Here’s how much each Hubbl streaming service costs by itself:

Foxtel Go FAQ

What’s my Foxtel Go login?

Your Foxtel Go login is the same as the details you would have set up when you first signed up to Foxtel. That will include a username (or email address) and password. If you’ve forgotten your password, you can follow the steps listed in Foxtel’s guide to have it reset. If you’ve forgotten your username or email, you can follow the steps here by entering your account’s associated phone number or date of birth and account number (found on your bill.)

Is there a Foxtel Go app?

Yes. The Foxtel Go app is available for iOS and Android on the App Store and Google Play, respectively. There isn’t a Foxtel Go app for computers because you need to log in to the Watch Foxtel landing page to access Foxtel Go.

How to watch Foxtel Go on TV

There might not be a native Foxtel Go app available for smart TVs but you can still cast Foxtel Go from the app to select smart TVs, Apple TV and Chromecast streaming devices if you have Multiroom or Multiscreen as part of your subscription. Assuming your streaming hardware is set up and running on the same WiFi network as your Foxtel Go device, all you need to do to watch Foxtel Go on TV is open the Foxtel Go app on your smartphone or tablet and touch the ‘Cast’ button on your screen then select the device you wish to cast to from the menu.

Can you download on Foxtel Go?

No. Unfortunately, there is no option to download content for offline viewing on any Foxtel service, even subsidiary services like Binge, Kayo, Flash and LifeStyle. Alternative streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Stan and Disney Plus allow users to download content directly to the device for offline viewing.

Can I watch Foxtel Go overseas?

No. Licensing agreements prohibit Foxtel users from streaming content outside of Australia. Unfortunately, Foxtel apps are also quite strict on VPN usage but it’s worth giving a shot with services like ExpressVPN and PureVPN, which are some of our top-performing VPNs for streaming.

How does Foxtel compare with the streaming alternatives?

If you're thinking that Foxtel or Foxtel Go isn't really for you, it's probably time to start considering a streaming service or two. Here's how the major streaming services compare in Australia.
