How to watch the Barbie movie in Australia

With some time to reflect on 2023, Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie continues to astound me. Granted Gerwig was already one of the best in the biz and our very own Marge (Margot Robbie) never misses but still... If you had have told me a few years ago that a movie about Mattel's divisive doll would go toe-to-toe with a Christopher Nolan movie and come out looking absolutely fabulous, there's no way I'd believe you. But here we are.

Barbie isn't just a good movie for a licensed movie about a toy, it's an incredible movie in spite of that fact. If you were allergic to the hype at release, I implore you to give it a chance, whatever your preconceptions are. Here's how you can stream it in Australia. 

Barbie is available to stream on-demand via Binge or Netflix and available to rent or purchase via digital platforms like Apple TV, YouTube Movies or Amazon. In many cases, purchasing the movie digitally or on Blu-ray DVD but in this case, both Binge and Netflix offer 4K streaming on their top-tier plans.

Barbie is a 2023 comedy from Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.  

Stereotypical Barbie (Robbie) is living a literal fantasy in Barbieland where nothing ever goes wrong and the patriarchy is outnumbered by Barbies of every possible vocation. This picture perfect universe is the one where the literal Barbie dolls live; alongside many Kens, a Midge, and one very unique Allen. When Stereotypical Barbie suddenly begins to consider her own mortality, the spotless fabric of Barbieland starts to break.

Thus begins Barbie's road trip to the real world in search for answers, accompanied by a stowaway Ken (Gosling.) While Barbie searches for the child who played with her, Ken makes himself comfortable in a world dominated by the patriarchy and an usual admiration of horses. 

That's barely scratching the surface. Barbie features an all-star cast of Barbies and Kens, each funnier than the last. If you don't come for the catchy musical numbers, at least come for the quoteable one-liners. Sublime! 

If you already subscribe to Binge or Netflix, congratulations, you're already wasting valuable time that could be spent streaming Barbie. If you're not subscribed to either service, you'll want to know which one to choose. 

Netflix needs no introduction. It's home to a huge library of incredible original TV shows and movies, like Baby Reindeer, Stranger Things, Ripley, Bridgerton and Unfrosted. It's also one of the more expensive streaming services available. 

In order to watch Barbie in 4K on Netflix, you're going to need to fork out for the $25.99 per month Premium plan (and don't even think about using someone else's Netflix password.) Binge, on the other hand, charges just $22 per month for its 4K tier and offers a 7-day free trial.
