Christopher Nolan's epic three-hour biopic Oppenheimer released in cinemas back in July 2023. Later in November, it got a home release via (a very popular) Blu-ray edition and a digital release for purchase and rent but still no streaming on-demand options. Well, today Binge has announced that Oppenheimer will officially release on the streaming service on Friday the 22nd of March.

It's come at the perfect time too, as Binge recently unlocked 4K streaming for Standard and Premium customers (while also increasing the monthly subscription price.)

Where to stream Oppenheimer in Australia (in 4K)

Heads Up

Renter beware

If you do plan on renting Oppenheimer on digital platforms, take note of the rental period. Typically you have a larger window to begin streaming your rental but as soon as you do, you'll typically have between 48 and 72 hours to finish your movie before your access is restricted.

However, if you don't mind waiting a few weeks, you'd be cillian not to hold out for Oppenheimer in 4K on Binge when it releases on Friday the 22nd of March 2024.

Oppenheimer release dates in Australia

While Oppenheimer officially hit cinemas in 2023, the wait for a streaming release has been a long one. Here are the key release dates for Oppenheimer in Australia:

  • Oppenheimer theatrical release: 20/07/2023
  • Oppenheimer DVD, Blu-ray and digital release:  21/09/2023
  • Oppenheimer streaming release: 22/03/2024 (Binge)

What is Oppenheimer about?

Cillian Murphy plays the father of the atomic bomb.

As a biopic concerned with one of the most controversial and complicated figures of all time, and by proxy, one of the darkest and most inhumane moments in history, Oppenheimer probably needs no introduction.

Christopher Nolan's award-winning movie itself is at least partially adapted from the 2005 biography American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.

Playing the lead role of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is joined by an army of talent behind and in front of the camera.

Nolan's film spends 180 minutes chaotically skipping from one pivotal moment in Oppenheimer's life to another; from his dalliances with card-carrying communists, to the private security hearing turned interrogation that sought to destroy his reputation, to the earth-shattering Trinity Test in Los Alamos where the atomic bomb is born. Not a single breath is wasted across the entire three-hour epic.

What is Binge?

Binge is probably the best way to get Foxtel's premium drama and blockbuster movies these days. Even better now that it offers 4K streaming on its Standard and Premium plans.
