In a rare but merciful move, the Paramount Pictures-made Top Gun: Maverick is available on multiple streaming services in Australia. You can opt for the distributor’s namesake, Paramount Plus, or Netflix to stream Top Gun: Maverick in up to 4K fidelity.

Paramount Plus has a seven-day trial before you have to pay. Price-wise, you’re looking at $9.99 per month for up to two 1080p simultaneous streams (Standard) or $13.99 each month for up to four 4K streams (Premium). If you want to go all in, it’s a $89.99 upfront fee for a year of Paramount Plus Standard or $124.99 for Premium, an annual saving of around $18 and $43, respectively.

Netflix doesn’t have a trial but monthly prices start at $6.99 for an ad-supported version of the service at up to 1080p resolution for two supported devices. Alternatively, pay $16.99 for the same plan with no ads or $22.99 for up to 4K fidelity and max four supported devices. Just remember that Netflix password sharing feels as old as the release date for the original Top Gun.

After delays, Top Gun: Maverick finally landed in Australian cinemas on 26 May 2022. The high-flying flick went on to chase down in $62 million in Australia and just shy of $1.5 billion at the global box office. Maverick hit Netflix on 21 December 2022 and Paramount Plus on 22 December 2022.

The Top Gun: Maverick cast is comprised of mostly new faces alongside Tom Cruise as the titular Maverick and a cameo from Val Kilmer’s Iceman. In terms of notable newbies, Jennifer Connelly plays Maverick’s old flame, while Jon Hamm and Ed Harris are there as outranking antagonists for Maverick. There are also some promising originals, too, such as Ziwe, Yellowjackets, 1883 (the Yellowstone prequel), The Offer, Halo and plenty of ways for Trekkies to go boldly where no streaming service has gone before. Paramount Plus is also home to Twin Peaks and Daria, which will be enough to net subscriptions from at least two huge cult fan bases.

Like other niche services on this list, the value of Paramount Plus is only muddied by the fact that, outside of the originals, you can stream most of its content on free-to-air or other streaming services.
