In the end, it Dutton even matter. Yellowstone's final season is now streaming in Australia on Stan.
How (and when) to watch Yellowstone’s final season in Australia
Yellowstone is one of the world's most beloved TV shows, and for a good reason, but with almost two years between Part One and Part Two of Season 5, you'd be forgiven for asking what the hell is going on. Why the hold up? Despite finding its success during the COVID years, Yellowstone's hiatus seemed to hit right around when lockdowns had been officially lifted.
It turns out a soured relationship behind the scenes was to blame for the two-year gap between the first and second half of the final season. It's a complicated story that boils down to some tension between star Kevin Costner (who played patriarch John Dutton) and creator Taylor Sheridan, which was compounded by Costner's dedication to his own Western epic Horizon: An American Saga which Costner wrote, directed, starred in and floated with $35 million of his own real money. Drama aside, that's left Yellowstone without its main man. Sure, it's an ensemble cast but Costner's face has always been front and centre for the incredibly popular TV series and if his absence in the marketing doesn't tip you off on John Dutton's fate, the poster plastered on billboards across half the country (see above) will give you a pretty good idea of how Sheridan decided to deal with Costner's departure.
Having the show's biggest drawcard leave at the eleventh hour rarely bodes well. It's exactly what happened with Kevin Spacey and House of Cards. Okay, this is nothing like what happened with Kevin Spacey and House of Cards but you get what I mean.
Can Yellowstone hold it together for the big finale without Costner's John Dutton on board? We'll soon find out. Part two of Season 5 is now streaming on Stan in Australia.

What is Yellowstone about?
Creator Taylor Sheridan may have a stable of cowboy-adjacent television shows currently streaming (including two spin-offs 1883 and 1923, plus three more in production,) but Yellowstone is where it all began. Set in Montana, the Dutton family ranch sits on contested land, bordering the Yellowstone National Park, the Broken Rock Indian Reservation and land owned by money-hungry developers.
The series features an ensemble cast, each with different ties to the Dutton family. But at the centre is Yellowstone patriarch, John Dutton. A cantankerous rancher who is willing to go to great lengths to protect his land and family, even if it means spilling a little blood. It's a little like Succession; in that there's an ever-evolving web of alliances and betrayals between family members and bad-faith actors close to the family.
