HBO has had a rich history of combining political satire with prestige television, from Succession to Veep. 2024's The Regime looks to be another standout addition to this legacy. It's got a thorny premise, lavish production values and an ensemble cast led by Kate Winslet.

Sold on it as your next streaming obsession? Here's everything you need to know to stream the new series The Regime in Australia.

While there's been some talk that Max might spin-off and do its own thing in Australia, Binge is still the place to look when it comes to HBO original series like The Regime.

If you don't already have Binge, your first taste is free. You can try before you buy with a seven day free trial of Binge, which is plenty of time to watch the Regime before you're asked to pay anything.

If you do let your free trial slip, you'll be asked to pay $10 per month at least. That gives you Binge Basic with Ads, which we don't recommend. The sweet spot is with Binge's Standard plan. Sure it costs $16 per month, but it gets you HD streaming, and most importantly, no ads. It's easily the best Binge plan available.

What is The Regime about?

Written by Will Tracy and directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs, The Regime looks a little too dark and wry to be described as an outright comedy but too tongue in cheek to sit alongside HBO dramas like The Sopranos. Based on the trailers, the series is less Chernobyl and more Succession.

While Winslet is the headliner for the politically-charged series, the cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough and Hugh Grant.

Here's the official synopsis:

"The Regime tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel."

How Binge compares to other streaming services

Binge is probably the best way to get Foxtel's comedy and animated content these days. Sure, it doesn't have 4K streaming but it starts at a reasonable price. Check out how it compares to other popular streaming services in the table below:
