The cutest gaming handheld you can buy just got a little cuter.

Panic is introducing a fun new cover for its Playdate gaming handheld, making the device look like a pizza delivery box. There’s not much more to it, but boy, is it charming.

As per an email from the company to its customers, “This is real. You see, sometimes, you don't know you want something until you see it.”

“It's the perfect Playdate accessory for you, and the perfect gift for all your Playdate-owning friends.”

Functionally, this new accessory is no different from the existing Playdate cover. All the same, you have to respect the commitment to both the bit and the joie de vivre that the handheld has embodied from its initial announcement.

Released back in 2022, the Playdate has a Gameboy-inspired form factor with a 400 × 240 resolution screen and a nifty crank-based interface. Due to its limited specs, the device only runs games that have been exclusively developed for the hardware.

Most games will run you a few bucks though and all new Playdate owners receive a “season” of games for no additional cost, with new titles dropping each week for twelve weeks. If this is the first you’re hearing about Panic’s unique crank-based handheld and would like to learn more about buying one in Australia, check out this guide.

Meanwhile, those looking to pick up the Pizza Cover for the Playdate can do so from this week through the Playdate website for $29 USD plus shipping.
