Back in August 2022, the inflation monster got its boney mitts on our beloved video game consoles when Sony announced a price hike for the already hard-to-find PS5 (PlayStation 5.) Amidst the Amazon Prime Day madness, Sony has announced a temporary price drop for the PS5 in Australia, bringing the RRP down from $799 to $724.99 for the promotional period, which ends after the 23rd of July. That discount is less sweet considering the PS5 cost $749 at the RRP as recently as August 2023 but the new deal is still the cheapest we’ve seen Sony’s next-gen console in recent memory.

Sony’s discounted price is just what it recommends to retailers, each store will charge whatever they see fit in light of the discount. With that said, a fair few Australian retailers have already jumped on board. EB Games, JB HI-FI, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, Amazon and more have all discounted the more expensive Disc Edition of the PS5.

The best PS5 deals we’ve found so far

The cheapest deals we’ve found come from Amazon, EB Games, JB HI-FI and Catch, all of which are selling the discounted PS5 at $699. This is the standard PS5 Disc Edition, so it comes with a DualSense Wireless Controller but no additional games.

Amazon is also in the throes of Prime Day, so it has a few other deals going we’ve included in the table below too. But honestly, even some of the bundles below don’t hold a candle to the $699 PS5 deal. In some instances, it’s still cheaper to buy the $699 PS5 and an extra controller or video game than it is to bundle. The exception to this rule is the PSVR2 (PlayStation VR2,) which you can currently bundle with Horizon: Call of the Mountain for $899. That game is valued at $109.95 and isn’t likely to go on sale any time soon so with the bundled price, you’re essentially paying about $20 for a game that’s worth over $100.
