What's new in the World of Waze?

  • Waze users can take directions from notable Orc Shaman Thrall (voiced by Chris Metzen)
  • The new "Drive with World of Warcraft" feature also enables Waze users to use a red drake to represent their vehicle on the Waze map.
  • Users can choose between Horde and Alliance as the visual representation on their maps
Warcraft Thrall on Waze

As of today, Waze users who have downloaded the latest update can select the iconic Orc Shaman Thrall to give them directions on their daily drive. If that's not WoW for you, you can also represent your driver avatar with a red drake (dragon for the noobs reading) and theme your entire experience with a Horde or Alliance visual flair.

Activision Blizzard is extremely excited about the future of World of Warcraft. The War Within is the first expansion of this new direction, one that's been planned out decades in advance. Admirably, the direction so far has favoured a return to form, rather than reinventing the wheel to bring in new blood (even if there's a clear future for WoW on mobile.)

Still, even though World of Warcraft is still unrivalled in the world of MMOs, Activision Blizzard, and now Microsoft, clearly have a lot riding on the next ten years. And so, the brand collabs must begin whether you like it or not.

The most recent brand collaboration might be the weirdest yet, but somehow the most fun. Users of the popular Waze app (the one that tells you where speed cameras and cops are) have long been able to download celebrity voice packs. In fact, my Waze still talks like Karamo Brown from Queer Eye and mostly because I haven't bothered to change it.  But at the time of writing, I'm planning on switching it over to Thrall. Karamo used to send calming affirmations when faced with an obstacle as simple as a roundabout so I'm excited to see how feral Thrall can be when I'm next faced with a Random Breath Test (RBT.)

If Thrall's driving directions are getting you antsy for more World of Warcraft, I highly recommend reading Ferg's review of The War Within expansion. The man is a walking, talking encyclopedia for anything and everything Warcraft. He doesn't even hate the Duncan Jones movie.
