Like everything else you need to live, NBN prices have gone up. If you're looking for a way to save money on your bills next year, 5G home internet may be the solution you've been waiting for.

Compared to NBN plans with the same typical evening speeds, 5G home internet is considerably cheaper. Optus' Uncapped plan has 240Mbps typical download speeds, for just $89/mth. Most NBN 250 plans sit at around the $100/mth mark - although you can get discounts that bring it down.

The savings are more palpable when you look at 5G plans with 100Mbps download speeds, compared to NBN 100 plans. NBN 100 plans are around $85/mth without including any promotional discounts. Optus' 5G plan with 100Mbps is just $79/mth, and iiNet's is only $69.99/mth. You'll get around the same speeds for up to $15 less per month. The same trend continues into NBN 50 vs 50Mbps 5G as well.

Right now, Optus is sweetening the pot by offering a free Amazon Echo Show 8 for just $1 with eligibile, new services. Within the first fortnight of the new plan, eligible customers will be sent a Promo Code via email in order to claim their device. You'll need to redeem it before February 29th, 2024 - so it may be a bit late as a Christmas present, but lets just call it a New Year treat.

Most 5G providers offer the first month free as a way to trial the service. First month - $0. It is a good deal. If you opt for TPG, iiNet, Telstra, or Vodafone you can simply send the modem back, and cancel your plan and have no more to pay. Spintel and Optus do however charge modem fees, so make sure you read the fine print before ordering your plan.
