For most of us looking to cool our home on a budget, Kmart is our first stop. But unfortunately for us and our sweat patches, Kmart does not sell portable air conditioners. It does have a few other cooling options however like standing fans, an evaporative cooler, and hey maybe the misting box fan that people fawned over in 2023 makes a comeback.

At the time of writing Kmart has only just started rolling out its air cooling range. For now it is limited, but we anticipate that we'll see more products popping up as we move into Spring and Summer. For now, here are how Kmart's cooling range stacks up.

Kmart fans

Both of Kmart's pedestal fans are pretty bare-boned spec wise, but unsurprisingly the more expensive one has a bit more going for it. The 50cm pedestal fan has a 42cm blade span while the 40cm fan has 34cm instead. This means that the 50cm fan can circulate more air, more efficiently than the smaller counterpart.

Each of the devices oscilate back and forth, but only the $39 variant has an adjustable height. It also comes with a remote control (although you'll need to buy the batteries), and comes in either black or white.

Kmart outdoor fans

Along with its indoor offerings, Kmart also has a couple of battery powered outdoor fans for camping. Both of these are quite small, measuring at just 16.5cm for the Rechargeable fan, and 20cm for the LED light with fan. Neither of these sizes actually account for the blade span, so the fans themselves are likely even smaller. They probably won't do too much to cool you down.

The $12 fan is powered by three AA batteries, and is 'weather resistant' according to Anko. It doesn't have any information about the IP rating however, so it is hard to know how well it would fare at a camp site.

At $39 the rechargeable fan uses a 5,200mAh lithium ion battery, which should last quite a long time. For comparison, most smart phones now have at least a 4,000mAh battery and they can last all day doing far more power-intensive activities. There is yet again, no IP rating for the rechargeable fan, but the manual does specifically say to keep it out of sunlight and moisture.

Kmart evaporative cooler

Another portable cooling device offered by Kmart is the evaportative cooler. Once again this is pitched as a camping device and works by blowing air over a frozen block to cool it down. It looks to be a slightly more advanced version of the misting fan from 2023, which uses coolant blocks rather than icecubes. It definitley seems tidier, as well as safer.

While the misting fan plugged in, this one has a 1,200mAh lithium ion battery and is rated to work for up to five hours on a full charge.
