LG showcased a whole heap of concept and consumer devices in its AI smart home at IFA, but the most endearing is easily the AeroCat. It is an air purifier cross cat bed.
While there aren't any actual specs for this concept device, LG gave Reviews.org Australia the general run down. Alongside the usual air based air purification, the device uses UV nano LED Technology which uses ultraviolet light to sanitise 99.99% of germs. On top of the purifier sits a padded (and heated) cat bed, triggered by a weight sensor. When the cat climbs into the bed, the air purifier automatically lowers its settings to minimise noise and ideally not scare the cat off. This sensor also weighs your cat as it rests letting you know if it has chonked out or remains a smol little guy.
Theoretically this is a perfect solution for cat owners. A cute little bed that doubles to get rid of kitty litter smell? Sign me up. But like any best laid plans, your cat has the opportunity to ruin it by completely ignoring it.
Known cat guy, and Technology Editor Fergus Halliday has dubbed this the most expensive thing you could possibly buy for a cat to completely ignore. While we don't know pricing (or if it is real) just yet, he probably isn't far off. LG's air purifiers start at $259.99 and go up to $1,199.99. None of these include the added bonus of kitty weight monitoring.
Regardless buying something for your cat to ignore is a pivotal part of cat ownership. While you can't make use out of that squeaky toy or cat tree yourself, as the very least the AeroCat will still serve as an air purifier as well as a reminder that your cat runs your house.
