Although the Dyson Airwrap has used innovative and interesting technology from the get-go, the new Airwrap i.d. is Bluetooth enabled and therefore officially a gadget. Coming off the back of feedback that users struggle to get the air styler’s curls to hold, the i.d. is Dyson’s first connected beauty appliance that will automate styling based on a personal profile.

Using the i.d. curl feature, the Airwrap connects to a users’ phone to automate a personalised curling sequence to make sure the curls actually hold. This sequence is based on a hair profile and styling preferences which takes into account hair type, length, and the user's skill level. From here it utilises a three step, colour coded system via the MyDyson app which cycles through the duration required for curling, holding, and cooling down the curl. To operate the feature you simply need to be connected to the app, toggle to the i.d. curl setting on the device, and press the power button. Now that is a gadget if I have ever seen one.

The device now has a total of 19 available attachments, including the Wave + Curl diffuser introduced with the Nural Supersonic, and the brand new Conical Barrel, and Blade Concentrator. The Conical barrel is similar to the other multi-directional barrels available with the Airwrap, except it tapers off towards the tip to allow better styling close to the root. The Blade Concentrator is a sharper version of the usual styling concentrator which uses two parallel air jets to deliver a smoother finish.

Each styling set comes with six attachments, with standalone attachments available for purchase separately. The current Airwrap standard set includes two long Airwrap barrels in different sizes, a firm and a soft styling brush, the Flyaway attatchment, and a round brush. These aren't too different to the Airwrap i.d. which will include a soft smoothing brush, a large round brush, the new Conical Barrel, Dryer + Flyaway attachment, and the Fast dryer. Extra attachments for previous models are available for $49 - $99, depending on which one you’re after, but the pricing for the i.d. compatible attachments are TBD.

How much this techy styler itself will cost is yet to be determined. It is likely the device will be a bit more expensive than the current Airwrap which retails for $849. We predict it will come in at $999, but time will tell.

While there is no set launch date for the Airwrap i.d., it will be available in time for Dyson’s holiday gifting range later this year. More colourways will be available in 2025, but you can keep up to date by signing up to get the latest news direct from Dyson. Or keep coming back to us here at Reviews.org Australia, and we'll keep you in the loop. Or should I say the curl?
