Catch Connect is an Australian mobile provider that sells monthly and long-expiry prepaid plans on the Optus 4G network. The “Catch” part of the brand name may be more familiar to Aussie households as an online retailer, but there’s plenty to pay attention to for Catch as a telco.

Catch Connect mobile quick facts

  • Catch Connect is owned by online retailer Catch.com.au, and uses the Optus 4G network to connect its customers.
  • You’ll find a mix of prepaid plans from Catch Connect, including 30-day, 90-day and 365-day options.
  • Catch Connect offers a range of prepaid add-ons, including data, overseas calls and roaming credit.
  • Comparatively, Catch Connect long-expiry prepaid plans are among the cheapest we track in our database.

What are the different types of Catch Connect plans?

Catch Connect sells prepaid plans with different recharge durations. There are a couple of 30-day prepaid plans for those after a monthly(ish) commitment, a single 90-day offering and three 365-day plans. All Catch Connect prepaid plans include unlimited standard talk and text to Australian numbers.

Catch Connect prepaid plans and prices

Catch Connect prepaid plans are among the cheapest we track in our comparison engine, for both 30-day and longer-expiry options. In terms of data, Catch prepaid plans are more intended for everyday users rather than those seeking dozens of gigabytes to use each month.

For comparison, below is a daily updating list of popular prepaid plans from our database.

What do you get with Catch Connect plans?

Catch Connect plan speeds

All Catch Connect prepaid plans use the Optus 4G network, so you’ll need a 4G-capable mobile phone (at least) to use a Catch plan. Catch doesn’t explicitly list plan speeds, but best-case conditions mean 100Mbps max downloads. According to Opensignal data, any mobile plan that uses the Optus mobile network can expect roughly 57.9Mbps download speeds and 7.7Mbps upload speeds. While not overly fast, those average speeds are good enough for all mobile tasks.

Catch Connect plan data

The amount of data you get per recharge depends on the plan price. Catch Connect’s cheapest prepaid plans offer 30-day recharges with a little and an above-average amount of data, respectively. Its 90-day prepaid plan is peerless as far as comparable plans go in our database—but that’s because of duration more than anything else—while the trio of Catch 365-day prepaid plans are more intended for low-to-moderate data users than those with big-data needs.

Catch Connect plan international calls

None of Catch Connect’s prepaid plans offer international calls by default. Instead, Catch offers a couple of 30-day call packs. It’s either $5 for 100 call minutes or $10 for 300 minutes. Both call packs cover these 32 selected dialling destinations: Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China (mainland), Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Vietnam.

Catch Connect plan features

Catch Connect plans aren’t big on features outside of standard $0 setup fees and no contracts. The bigger plan perks are missing from Catch Connect prepaid plans, including eSIM support, data rollover and access to 5G plans. Catch Connect plans do support WiFi calling, but other perks are relegated to extras. Overseas calls are outlined above, but you can also add extra data—$10 for 1GB or $15 for 2GB—and pay-as-you-go (PAYG) international roaming rates starting with $25 credit.
