Samsung is making a last minute addition to its Galaxy A lineup of budget friendly smartphones.
Announced overnight, the new Samsung Galaxy A16 picks up where last year's Galaxy A15 left off. The most noticeable differences here are external, with the new device rocking a larger 6.7-inch super AMOLED screen and an overhauled body that's more in line with more expensive devices like the Galaxy S24. In that specific sense, it definitely looks to be following in the footsteps of its fellow Galaxy A devices like the Galaxy A54.
Other key features include 25W fast-charging, an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance, 5G connectivity and a 13MP selfie camera.
Under the hood, the Galaxy A16 is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 6300 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 5000mAh of battery and 128GB of storage. Out of the box, thrifty handset also comes with a solid 6 generations of Android OS and One UI updates and 6 years of security updates. Those are pretty impressive numbers to put on-board, especially given how little the device costs.
The Galaxy A16 swings above its weight class in a similar way when it comes to its rear camera capabilities. On the back of the unit, you'll find a triple lens setup that combines a 50MP wide lens, a 5MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro lens. That's not exactly going to dethrone the iPhone 16 anytime soon but a triple-lens setup is still fairly nice-to-have on something this thrifty.
In Australia, the Samsung Galaxy A16 is available at a recommended retail price of $349 from this week.
