Motorola's follow-up to the Moto G53 promises to be better and cheaper than its predecessor.

Landing at a thrifty recommended retail price of $299, the newly minted Motorola Moto G54 comes kitted out with a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 processor. Under the hood, the budget-friendly handset has 8GB of RAM, a 5000mAh battery and 128GB of storage with MicroSD expansion.

As with the previous Moto G53, aesthetics are a big part of the draw.

According to Motorola's greater Asia Pacific head Kurt Bonnici, Motorola’s Moto G range is renowned for making premium technology more accessible to consumers, and the Moto G54 5G builds on that legacy.

"With design as equally important as the features, we’ve gone an extra step to include the option of a vegan leather finish for a premium, luxe feel in the hand."

"We’ve also included the charger, headphones and a protective cover in the box to ensure our customers are getting the maximum value from the moto g54 5G," he said.

Other upgrades here include new audio features like Dolby Atmos stereo speakers ad support for Spatial Sound by Motorola.

As with the Moto G53, the back half of the new device is host to a 50MP quad pixel main camera and a 2MP macro lens. Meanwhile, the front-facing side of the Moto G54 is kitted out with an 8MP selfie camera.

In Australia, the Moto G54 is available in two colors (Midnight Blue and Indigo Blue) from this week via local retailers, including JB HiFi, Harvey Norman, Office Works, The Good Guys, Big W and Bing Lee. The new device is also available online through Amazon and Motorola.com.au.
