Samsung has confirmed it will reveal its next generation of folding smartphones in late July, with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 presumably on the cards for this year.
Notably, Samsung's unveiling will take place in Seoul this year, rather than in the United States or Europe. This is the first time Samsung will host an Unpacked event in its home city.
"The foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences," said Samsung President and Head of Mobile Experience TM Roah. "Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicentre of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category."
While Samsung has yet to set a date, July 26 has been heavily rumoured. That makes it a bit earlier than previous years where the manufacturer's foldables have been unveiled in August. As such, we could also see the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in customers' hands earlier.
Last year, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were revealed on August 10 ahead of a September 2 release date.
The key rumour for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a much larger external display, while the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to be thinner and lighter. Both phones are expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
This time around, Samsung will be launching its new devices in a much more contested foldable market. OPPO has launched its Find N2 Flip in markets outside of China, while Motorola is heavily undercutting the competition with its newly announced Razr 40.
