PlayStation has finally launched the new PlayStation Plus subscription tiers (and their associated benefits) here in Australia. Essential, Extra and Deluxe all include the same discounts and monthly games subscribers are used to in addition to a few new premium perks on the Extra and Deluxe plans. It’s great news for Australian PlayStation 5 users who have been pining for an Xbox Game Pass equivalent even if it isn’t quite as attractive as Xbox’s Day One Game Pass release for first-party games.

Existing PlayStation Plus members will be automatically moved to PlayStation Plus Essential, which is functionally identical to the old PlayStation Plus subscription (and costs the same too). To reap the benefits of the new PlayStation Plus features, subscribers will need to upgrade to the Extra or Deluxe tier.

Starting at $18.95 per month, Extra gets you all existing perks of PlayStation Plus (monthly games, online multiplayer, exclusive discounts etc.,) as well as access to the new Game Catalogue, home to over 400 PlayStation 4 and 5 titles that can be downloaded and played at any time. You can also pay $54.95 for a three-month subscription (saving $1.90) or $134.95 for a 12-month subscription (saving $92.45).

The top-tier subscription here in Australia is called PlayStation Plus Deluxe and it starts at $21.95 per month. Deluxe nets you everything included in Essential and Extra, plus access to the Classics Catalogue, a decent library of over 400 PlayStation 1 (PS1), PlayStation Portable (PSP), PlayStation 2 (PS2) and PlayStation 3 (PS3) games, and Game Trials, time-limited demos of some of PlayStation’s blockbuster first-party games.

At launch, there are 14 game trials available for the following games:

  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Olli Olli World
  • WWE 2K22
  • UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed
  • LEGO CITY Undercover
  • Biomutant
  • Farming Simulator 22
  • MotoGP 22
  • ELEX 2
  • Crusader Kings III
