In terrible news for me, and potentially the hundred or so other people who know this exists, Frank Green's Pay service will shut down on November 30.

The Pay service is part of a companion app that goes with the drink bottle company's smart Tap to Pay products. These keep-cups and drink bottles have since been discontinued, but they held an NFC chip in the bottom of the cup which you could use to tap on any paywave enabled eftpos machine.

Originally introduced in 2015, these came in before the Tap-to-Pay boom in Australia. Now of course there are a handful of ways to pay for your coffee without getting your wallet out. You can tap your smart watch, or your phone but, I'll miss the look on baristas' faces when I held a cup to the machine and the transaction actually went through. Those were glorious days.

Those who still have an active account are being asked not to top it up by Frank Green.

"This will allow us to keep everything organised and ensure that you can make the most of your existing credits."

After the close date, any remaining credits will be refunded, and the cups will be notably dumber.
