Google is betting on Gemini to give its latest set of true wireless earbuds a leg-up on the competition.
The newly announced Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 come with a reworked design, a new A1 chipset and integration with Google's Gemini AI voice assistant. Even if the finished product looks very much of a kind with its predecessors, the smaller form factor that the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 offer is said to be the byproduct of data points collected through ear scans that Google claims allowed it to refine both the level of comfort and the security of the fit involved.
All told, Google's second stab at a pro-grade take on true wireless ends up being about 27% smaller than the previous generation. The revised form factor is just the start though, Google is also billing the earbuds as its first set that has been made with Gemini in mind. The sell here isn't quite akin to AI-powered gadgets like the Rabbit R1 but it's not that far off either.
For those on the fence or unbothered by AI-powered tech, the more notable change here is that the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are the first to feature Google's A1 chipset. This silicon is the first-ever expansion of the Tensor processor that the company uses for its Pixel phones and it promises to unlock faster audio processing, low latency and better noise cancellation, specifically when it comes to the mid-band.
Other specs here include 11mm drivers, IP54 sweat and water resistance, active noise cancellation, Qi wireless charging and up to 12 hours of playback off a single charge.
If you weren't won over by the original Pixel Buds Pro, this is all promising stuff. In his review of Google's previous Pro-grade earbuds, Alex Choros came away unconvinced.
