It might not be as glitzy as the new iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10 or AirPods 4, but Apple’s new MagSafe charger promises to set a new benchmark for wireless charging speeds.

The puck-shaped peripheral doesn’t look like a radical shift from earlier efforts, but it comes with the promise of up to 25W speeds when paired with the new iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Naturally, there are a few catches to this.

Firstly, you’ll only get those speeds when you pair the charger with a 30W power adapter. That charging brick isn’t included in the box, so you’ll have to track it down separately if you don’t already own one.

The other catch here is that those faster speeds are only available on the most recent iPhone. For comparison, everything between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 12 you’re looking at a maximum of 15W. Anything older than that will cap out at 7.5W.

In Australia, the new Apple MagSafe charger is available through Apple from today. The 1-meter version starts at $69 while the 2-meters will run you $89.
