If you told me ahead of time that Nintendo's next hardware announcement wasn't going to be the highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch, I never would have bet on it being an alarm clock instead.

Announced earlier today ahead of a November launch, the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is a colorful and cylindrical alarm clock with a screen on it. More than just telling you the time, this 2.8-inch LCD display is preloaded with 35 scenes inspired by classic Nintendo gaming franchises.

Additional scenes will be available as a free update later down the line if you link the Alarmo to your Nintendo Account. There's also a built-in motion sensor that's used to offer some basic sleep tracking, two alarm settings (gentle and firm) plus option of setting a bedtime, at which point the clock will start emitting "sleepy sounds" designed to help you wind down.

The one catch here is that the Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo is only going to be available to members of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. At least initially. If you're eligible and keen to get your hands on one, Nintendo Australia is taking expressions from today.

According to the Nintendo Australia website, everyone else will have to wait until March 2025.  Regardless of which camp you fall into, the device is currently listed at a price of $159.
