Apple loves tenth anniversaries - it changed up its naming protocol for the iPhone X, and ran surveys around Apple Pay for its big one, zero earlier this year. For the Apple Watch’s incoming celebration, Apple looks like it wants users to (unsurprisingly) exercise.

Initially reported by Macrumors, within the iOS 18.2 beta there are mentions of an activity achievement in reference to a “Ten Year Celebration”. 2015 wasn’t a huge year of new innovations for Apple. There was the release of the Apple Watch, Apple Music, and the first iPad Pro, but only one of these devices has activity achievements attached to its UX.

Activity achievements are unlocked and awarded as badged on the Apple Watch, and in the Fitness app. Mostly centered around closing your rings, and completing Fitness+ workouts, there are some Limited Edition Challenges Apple Watch users can complete. These usually require the user to complete a workout of a certain duration, within a certain period of time. It is likely that the “Ten Year Celebration” achievement will fall into this category. I’d hazard a guess that you’ll need to complete a 10 minute workout, sometime in April 2025 to unlock the badge. Or maybe they’ll make you do a decathlon. The Apple Watch can be sadistic like that.

Although we already have the Apple Watch 10 available to purchase, the original Apple Watch was initially announced in 2014 but didn’t go on sale until April 2015. It is possible, according to leaks from Mark Gurman back in 2023, that we will see a totally redesigned Apple Watch to mark the occasion. Some of Gurman’s predictions came to fruition with the Apple Watch 10, such as a larger display and thinner frame, but others never surfaced. These could be laying in wait for a 2025 Apple event, or maybe we’ll just celebrate by breaking a sweat.
